Jay Peg

GREAT DRAW FOR BROWN RUNNERS

The post position draw for the $3 million Group 1 Singapore Airlines International Cup was held on Thursday at Chevron House at noon and went exactly according to plan for trainer Herman Brown.Brown, who splits his year between Dubai and his native South Africa, drew barrier No 3 and 7 for Mourilyan and Jay Peg respectively.

“We’re delighted with both draws. Obviously, we are pretty relieved Jay Peg has drawn a good barrier in 7,” said the South African.“There are some speedy horses like Sir Slick and Chevron on his inside. If the pace is on and they go forward Jay Peg should hopefully be able to get a nice position on the fence.“For Mourilyan, barrier 3 does not really matter as he gets back, but it’s certainly better than being drawn badly anyway.”Seven-time Hong Kong champion jockey and now trainer Basil Marcus was the one who picked the barrier for Jay Peg, who will be ridden by younger brother Anton.

“It’s been a little nerve-wrecking as to what barrier we would be getting, but it’s turned out all right,” said Marcus who first trained Jay Peg and whose brother Selwyn is one of the part-owners.“Though he led and won in Dubai, Jay Peg can race from anywhere, and barrier 7 should be able to give him a good sit.“The pressure will be on Anton on top but we will also feel the pressure on the ground.”
