Annawood (far left) looks a classy type
ODDS-ON ANNAWOOD MAKES IT THREE WINS
Ever since Annawood has been over ground, she has shown that she is a classy
stayer in the making. The beautiful Fort Wood filly won again at Scottsville on
Wendsday to take her record to three wins from her last four starts.
With the stable confident of a powerful showing, Annawood, didn't let them or
her owner down in an exciting win over the 1950m trip at the city track in
Pietermaritzburg. Annawood quicken nicely off the pace around the bend and
turned a good ride into a winning advantage under the confident urgings of Sean
Cormack.
The Rupert Plersch owned and Somerset Stud bred filly is enjoying her
fledging career. Her last start showed that she belonged in a higher league when
placed in the Flamboyant Stakes, Grade3, over the mile trip - a trip short of
her optimum and beaten only 1.5 lengths.
The filly won at odds of 9/10 after being backed into odds on. She didn't let
her supporters down and in turn picked up a R46 880 cheque for her connections.
MR 84 Hcp (F & M) 1950m Bend
La Ballerina (Howells) broke well as did the rest of the horses.
She went on to take the lead from El Romantico (Phillips) and Annawood (Brown).
The top weight Sans Frontiers (Dixon) was content to bide her time at the back
of affairs. With 1200m to go it was still La Ballerina out in front at a slow
gallop. El Romantico and Annawood were just behind her with both Goddess Of
Hearts (Edges) and Damascus Charmer (Lafferty) moving into contention. With 600m
to go it was still La Ballerina from Annawood who had moved into second with El
Romantico being relegated into third. In The Hoop (Campbell) was also beginning
to find a good finish with Sans Frontiers. La Ballerina cried enough with 150m
to go allowing Annawood to storm into the front from El Romantico and Sans
Frontiers. Annawood was sired by Fort Wood at the Somerset Stud. She is owned Mr
R Plersch.
